Join us for "In the Paint: Stories, Art, and Legacy," workshop
Celebrate Black History and explore the significance of authentic storytelling, through art and culture.
We are excited to welcome special guests D. Watkins, acclaimed author and advocate for social change, and Devin Allen, celebrated photographer whose work captures the essence of community and resilience. This workshop seeks to encourage youth from middle and high schools to explore their own narratives and engage in creative expression that defies the constraints of impending policies and practices.
What to Expect:
Engaging Writing Sessions: participants will explore crafting compelling stories that reflect their experiences and perspectives, addressing the importance of representation and inclusion.
Photography Exhibit Exploration: Immerse yourself in Devin Allen’s powerful photo exhibit, which highlights the stories within our communities and serves as a catalyst for discussion about the historical and contemporary significance of Black culture.
Collaborative Zine-making: Join your peers in creating a zine that showcases your unique voices, incorporating articles, photos, and illustrations that highlight the personal and collective narratives that deserve to be heard.
This workshop is an opportunity to connect with fellow students, express your creativity, and contribute to a more inclusive dialogue about our shared history and future. All materials will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring their stories and inspirations to share.
Together, let’s challenge narratives, celebrate culture, and honor the legacy of those who came before us!
